Straight hair has been “in” for as long as I can remember. Except years ago, achieving the look was far from easy or safe. I remember my mom wrapping her damp hair like a turban around her head with a gazillion bobby pins so that it would dry as smooth as possible. I also remember hearing about brave (or maybe just desperate) women draping their curly, frizzy, unruly, what-have-you hair over a board and using a clothes iron to get the kinks out. Must be where the old saying “Beauty is pain” comes from! Yeow! Permanent hair straightening must have been a godsend. And for many curly girls, it still is today. Read the rest of this entry »

If you are trying to regrow your hair, biotin may be your best friend.
This B vitamin is crucial for the production of hair. And because it is impossible to get the amount of biotin needed for hair growth from food, supplements are the only way to go. As a bonus, taking biotin will also strengthen and improve the health of your skin and nails. Read the rest of this entry »

Thicker hair in a bottle? That’s the promise of a dietary supplement that’s said to not only increase the diameter of your individual hair shafts but strengthen them too.
The secret is silicon. Not silica, not silicone, but silicon. And not any silicon — if you can even find it — but silicon in the form of choline-stabilized orthosilicic acid, or ch-OSA ®. The patented ingredient in BioSil has been shown in clinical studies to boost three of your body’s “beauty proteins” – safely and naturally.
The Three ‘Beauty Proteins’
According to the makers of ch-OSA ®, the beauty of your hair, skin and nails depends on three proteins: collagen, keratin and elastin.
Collagen is essential for the health of your joints, bones, vital organs, skin, nails and hair. In fact, skin is 75 percent collagen.
Increasing collagen plumps up the skin, helping reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and even prevent them from forming in the first place. Collagen is a must for healthy, strong bones and joints, too.
Keratin – This protein is the main structural component of hair and nails. It’s the strengthening coating of keratin that makes Brazilian blowouts a treat for fine, unmanageable hair. Keratin provides strength, elasticity and thickness to your hair strands.
Elastin – Lastly, this aptly named protein helps prevent lines by giving your skin elasticity, the ability to stretch and bounce back, if you will.
The levels of all three of these proteins start to go downhill, believe it or not, at just age 21, and by the time you reach 30, the reduction begins to show in your hair, skin and nails.
Turn Back the Clock
It stands to reason that if you can boost collagen, keratin and elastin in your body, you can improve the appearance of your hair, skin and nails. But the makers of this special patented silicon formulation have proven it in a double-blind study. According to their results in the placebo-controlled trial, it reduced fine lines by 30 percent, increased skin elasticity by 89 percent, strengthened nails, and pumped up hair strands by almost 13 percent.
Where Can I Get Thicker Hair in a Bottle?
It will take several months — up to nine months, we’ve read — to see results in your hair, which grows at a much slower pace than skin or nails. But the product does sound promising. You can probably find it in your local supplement store, as we did. But we saved nearly 40 percent buying it here. Grab a bottle now while you’re thinking about it. Another tip: you’ll save money in the long run by getting the largest size available since you’re going to have to stick with it for a few months to see results anyway.
